In figures released in Kyiv on October 27, 2026, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that Ukrainian defense force units have killed or wounded 302,000 Russian soldiers with unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) since January 1 of this year. The ministry announced that every strike is recorded on video in the "DELTA" combat system and verified by the defense tech cluster "Brave1." The ministry announced that in the monthly tallies, March saw the highest Russian personnel losses, approaching 34,000\. In the early morning hours of the same day, Russia attacked Ukraine with 16 ballistic missiles and more than 280 drones, and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that Russia struck a university campus and then attacked rescuers aiding the wounded again.

## Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Announces 302,000 Russian Casualties Inflicted by Drone Strikes This Year

The monthly breakdown of casualties from drone strikes in 2026 released by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense is as follows: 29,572 in January, 26,204 in February, 33,989 in March, 33,961 in April, 30,548 in May, 27,072 in June, 30,272 in July, 29,554 in August, and 32,739 in September. For October, the figure stood at 27,829 from the 1st to the 25th. The ministry stated that these figures cover a period of less than 10 months of 2026\. In a post on its official X account, the ministry wrote that Russian casualties from drones had surpassed 300,000 since January 1, describing it as "roughly 1,000 a day, every day, for almost ten months." In the same post, the ministry noted that no month had dropped below 26,000.

The ministry also laid out the rationale for striking enemy personnel with drones. According to the ministry, drone strikes deplete enemy manpower, degrade unit combat effectiveness, and slow the pace of offensives. The ministry stated that neutralizing enemy personnel with unmanned aerial vehicles makes it harder for the enemy to approach Ukrainian positions, which also helps protect the lives of Ukrainian service members. On its official X account, the ministry wrote, "Every Russian soldier stopped by a drone is a soldier who never reaches Ukrainian positions."

According to cumulative figures released on the same day by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Russian personnel losses from the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, to October 27, 2026, totaled approximately 1,581,840\. The General Staff announced that Russian personnel losses on October 26 alone stood at 1,400, while 1,794 operational-tactical unmanned aerial vehicles and 21 artillery systems were destroyed on the same day. According to the General Staff's tally, 3,025 Russian unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) have been destroyed since the full-scale invasion. Unmanned ground vehicles are ground robots that operate remotely or autonomously without human crews on board, used for logistics, reconnaissance, and strike missions. The General Staff's cumulative tally also includes 12,448 tanks, 25,609 armored combat vehicles, 51,653 artillery systems, 2,241 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,727 air defense systems, 449 aircraft, 356 helicopters, 584,252 operational-tactical UAVs, 5,138 cruise missiles, 35 warships and boats, and two submarines. The General Staff stated that these figures are estimates and are continuously updated.

## Ministry of Defense States All Strikes Are Recorded on Video in DELTA and Verified by Brave1

The Ministry of Defense presented its verification system as the basis for the tallies. DELTA is a digital battlefield command and control system operated by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense. The ministry described DELTA as the "digital backbone of command and control on the modern battlefield" and one of the key technologies providing Ukraine with an edge over the enemy. The ministry stated that this verification method allows tracking the details of every enemy drone shootdown and facilitates faster dissemination of proven solutions. According to the ministry, during the month of September alone, Ukrainian service members recorded 1.8 million completed mission results in "Mission Control," a module within DELTA. Mission Control is a function designed to record mission outcomes for analysis and planning subsequent operations.

Brave1 is a defense technology innovation cluster operated jointly by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Digital Transformation, which provides grants to weapons developers. The Defense Ministry announced that once video of a drone strike is uploaded to DELTA, Brave1 verifies it. The ministry has also successively released other figures compiled using the same verification process. On October 22, the ministry announced that Ukrainian defense forces had hit 408,000 Russian unmanned aerial vehicles since the beginning of the year. According to the ministry, these included approximately 248,000 fixed-wing UAVs, about 125,000 multi-rotor UAVs, and more than 35,000 Shahed-type drones. The Shahed is an Iranian-developed long-range kamikaze drone. The ministry noted that every Russian drone destroyed saves the lives of Ukrainian troops and civilians. On October 30, the ministry announced that 1,039 Russian military boats had been destroyed or disabled by drones since the start of the year, with July recording the highest monthly total at 236\. The ministry stated that strikes on boats degrade the Russian military's control over waterways, movement of troops and equipment, and unit resupply capabilities. On September 17, the ministry announced that more than 3,000 Russian unmanned ground vehicles had been struck by drones since the beginning of the year, with 511 destroyed or disabled in August alone. The ministry stated that every time an enemy unmanned ground vehicle is stopped, it disrupts enemy logistics, diminishes reconnaissance and assault capabilities, and forces the enemy to expend more resources and manpower to replace the lost robots.

## Defense Procurement Agency DOT Increases UAV Contracts by 300% This Year Compared to Last Year

In its October 27 announcement, the Ministry of Defense stated that it is systematically supplying drones to troops, noting that the State Operator for Defense (DOT), a defense procurement agency under the ministry, contracted 300% more unmanned aerial vehicles in 2026 than in the previous year. According to the ministry, the contracted volume includes unmanned systems of various types and purposes. The ministry announced in September that DOT had initiated competitive procurement for radio-controlled reconnaissance and strike FPV drones meeting tactical and technical specifications set by the ministry. FPV (first-person view) drones are small drones where pilots guide them directly to targets while viewing footage from the drone's camera through goggles.

The ministry announced that troops receive points for verified strikes, which can be exchanged for drones, electronic warfare (EW) equipment, and unmanned ground vehicles on the state-operated military online marketplace "Brave1 Market." The ministry refers to these points as "ePoints." According to the ministry, units earn points each time they complete combat missions such as confirmed target strikes, reconnaissance, and robotic resupply or evacuation missions. On September 25, the ministry announced that troops had ordered more than 590,000 UAVs through Brave1 Market from January to September of this year, with the average monthly order value more than doubling compared to the start of the year. According to the ministry, the most-ordered types were interceptor drones targeting reconnaissance drones and specialized Shahed interceptor drones, followed by quadcopter-type FPV kamikaze drones. The ministry announced that orders for fixed-wing kamikaze drones grew the fastest, reaching six times the early-year level during peak ordering periods. According to the ministry, "mothership drones"—which carry and launch smaller drones mid-flight—rank among the most expensive technological categories, while bomber drones that drop munitions account for the largest share of expenditures. The ministry stated that this system allows high-performing units to receive more of the equipment they currently need, while manufacturers can view the ranking of their drones, the number of missions executed, and the units using them in real time. According to the ministry, Brave1 Market also introduced a feature for ordering custom drones tailored to military requirements, which is currently available only when units make purchases with their own funds. On October 29, the ministry announced that it had opened a new amphibious unmanned ground vehicle category on Brave1 Market, and units will soon be able to order this equipment using ePoints as well. According to the ministry, the first registered amphibious robots are three models—BI34G, Toni, and Triton—and the "Alter Ego" unit of the 93rd Mechanized Brigade carried out its first combat mission with amphibious robots, traveling over 40 kilometers across land and water to deliver food and ammunition to positions.

## General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Announces Shoot-Down Rate for Jet-Powered Strike Drones Is Rising

On the same day, October 27, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced that the shoot-down rate of Russian jet-powered strike drones is steadily increasing. According to the General Staff, an analysis of the past three months shows the average shoot-down rate for Russian "Geran-4" UAVs is approximately 60%, and during individual attacks, the shoot-down rate for jet-powered UAVs can reach up to 80%. The Geran is a long-range kamikaze drone manufactured and used by Russia based on the Iranian Shahed drone. The General Staff stated that F-16, Mirage, and MiG-29 tactical aircraft are playing a major role in shooting down jet-powered UAVs.

The General Staff announced that bolstering short-range air defense (SHORAD) is a critical task amid a shortage of surface-to-air guided missiles. According to the General Staff, SHORAD includes Gepard and Shilka anti-aircraft guns, Skynex, Skyranger, and Terrahawk Paladin systems, interceptor drones, and mobile fire groups from various defense force units. The General Staff stated that mobile fire groups are equipped with man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS) alongside machine guns, successfully shooting down jet-powered drones with these missiles. The General Staff also announced that testing of new interceptor drones continues, with some models having already shot down dozens of Russian jet-powered Gerans.

According to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Defense Minister Evgeniy Khmara requested on October 26, the day before the announcement, that defense ministry representatives from the E5 group—Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Poland, and Italy—provide timely funding for Ukraine's unmanned systems production. The ministry announced that Ukrainian manufacturers have the capacity to double drone production in 2027, which requires timely financial support. Minister Khmara stated, "I propose not just to increase procurement, but to expand the co-production of Ukrainian drones in other countries," adding, "This will scale up production, supply Ukraine with needed drones, and strengthen the defense capabilities of our partners." Khmara said that planning for 2027 assistance must begin now, and that such plans must reflect Ukraine's real wartime needs as the role of unmanned systems expands. Khmara noted that Ukraine desires a just and lasting peace, and that achieving peace requires strength, defense readiness, and timely decisions. European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas also attended the meeting. On its official X account the same day, the ministry announced that Ukraine's first drone designed for aerial medical evacuation, "StarGate," can carry up to 150 kg and evacuated two critically wounded soldiers within a week from a gray zone inaccessible to ground vehicles. The ministry noted that while ground robots are already evacuating wounded soldiers from the front lines, evacuation is now taking to the air as well. The gray zone refers to an area between opposing positions that neither side definitively controls.
