About BPRI

BEXUS Policy Research Institute is an independent, citizen-based think tank founded around 2018 and based in Washington, D.C. It does not represent any government, political party, or corporate interest. Instead, it examines Indo-Pacific geopolitics, U.S.–Korea security, national sovereignty, election integrity, and anti-communist and anti-globalist questions from a civic perspective. Drawing on a network of independent scholars, journalists, and civic leaders across the United States, Europe, and Asia, it produces timely, practical policy reports rather than purely academic papers. Operations are funded through research, publishing, media, education, and individual contributions. Its stated purpose is to analyze issues from the standpoint of citizens, not those in power.

Alfred Jyung Hyun Kim is the institute’s president. A dual U.S.–Korean citizen born in Kansas in 1983 and raised in Korea, he served as a KATUSA sergeant in the U.S. 8th Army and received the Expert Infantryman Badge and the Army Commendation Medal. From 2013 to 2017 he worked as an investigative journalist at Weekly Chosun and Monthly Chosun, winning a Special Scoop Award for exclusive reporting. Those reporting skills, military service, bilingual ability, and work on Korean Peninsula and Indo-Pacific security issues form the core of his public record.

The most current official recognition came on May 12, 2026, when U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio nominated him to a three-year term on the East-West Center Board of Governors in Hawaiʻi. The State Department letter cited his investigative journalism, military service, policy research on political and industrial threats to the Korean Peninsula, and fluency in English and Korean, noting that this background aligns with America First priorities in the Indo-Pacific. He subsequently visited the Center and met its president, Celeste Connors, as he began board service.
